I've been reading a lot of stuff this afternoon, mainly about Wicca from different points of view, WitchVox, and the "Why Wiccans Suck" page which seems to have been abandoned, which I became aquainted with a while ago, and forgot about. Surprisingly, it's not as offensive to me as it was to me as it was a few years ago. The first time I saw it, I was extremely offended, assuming that the person who wrote it was unenlightened and had no right to judge me, and whatnot. While I still don't exactly agree with the message of the site, I understand it. I can come to grips with the fact that yes, I was a fluffy bunny, and yes, I was like everyone the person on that page hates. The change of view shows the change in me. I remember reading a book, a long time ago when I was first becoming interested in Wicca, a large black book with information on Wicca, Santaria, Vodoun, and Satanism, if I remember correctly. It was graphic. Extremely graphic, and the book scared me, and I immediatly dismissed what the book said as lies, and returned it to the library the next day. As I went of the history section of the WWS site, I recognised some elements from the book that scared me in the page; things I was sure must be embellished or twisted, the use of knives in initiation, of ritualistic sex, and a few other things. This book that frightened me so basically had what the WWS page lambasted "fluffy-bunnies" for not having; a knowledge of the darker side of the faith, and a realization that being Wiccan did not necessarily make one a Witch. I can now accept that I have not been following the "true path" as it orginated, without feeling "offended" or "insulted". Yes, I can go back to learning more. New state of mind here, I can now work towards becoming what I've said I was.
